The First Vision

48x30, Oil on canvas.

This was completed in 2026.  Painting Joseph Smith's 1st Vision was something that started out as a feeling that really began pressing itself on my heart in the summer of 2025. I'm not really sure why but I just began to feel really impressed that I needed to paint this image.  I think it was because we didn't have anything really overtly religious hanging in our own home, and I really wanted to have religious art around me and in our home.  But also, I wasn't thrilled with any existing art that tried to capture the 1st Vision.  And so I decided to try to tackle it.  It's a daunting task, and there's a lot of tricky questions that need to be answered.

I posted a 26 minute video to my YouTube channel about this painting, discussing the my approach & why I made many of the decisions in how I chose to portray this sacred event.  Would love it if you take a look!
